The PTA Committee has been busy over the weekend coming up with ideas on how to distribute some of the fabulous Raffle Prizes we had arranged for the PTA Spring Social Event which was to be on this Friday night in Killiney Golf Club!

We are (as I am sure you all are) in agreement that the heroes of this whole COVID-19 pandemic are the frontline workers. They are working around the clock and will be for many weeks to come. They are friends and family in our community who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

An initiative called “Feed The Heroes” was set up by Cian O’Flaherty to raise funds to buy prepared food to supply daily to those on duty at the frontline. He set up the campaign on GoFundMe.ie and in two weeks raised just over half a million euro. Wow! Not only is he saluting the frontline workers, he is supporting them while supporting and possibly in some cases saving, local restaurants and food outlets. It has gone Nationwide and he has 20 volunteers helping out.

I spoke with Cian earlier and sought approval from Brian – both of whom are very grateful and thrilled if Rathdown could get involved.

So we have set up a 

Rathdown4Heroes GoFundMe.ie page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/rathdown4heroes), which will be live until Friday 3rd April at 4pm. At 6pm I will video the raffle draw with an able husband and teen for complete transparency. 

Those who donate will automatically be entered into the draw for the following raffle prizes

• Eoin O’Connor Cow Mug Set

There was mention of prizes to give to your girls,  like no homework pass, etc (we will see how Brian & Dermot feel about this one!)

Should anyone wish to make an anonymous donation to the campaign but still wish to take part in the raffle – please do so and then email pta@rathdownschool.ie to be included. 

We are really happy to open this up to Parents, Guardians, Teachers, Staff, Alumni and Friends of our Rathdown Community – it is a truly wonderful cause for us to be involved with.  And what a great way to start the Easter Holidays should you win a prize!
